Information Sheets

Microanalysis Australia is a NATA accredited Laboratory, leveraging scientific methodologies and cutting-edge equipment to drive our analyses. Our focus is on delving into the micro to unravel the macro, providing our clients valuable insight for informed decision making.

Our laboratory offers a diverse array of instrumental, physical, and chemical techniques, encompassing scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, particle sizing, gas chromatogram – mass spectrometery, petrography, and hazardous goods testing. Beyond our suite of standard tests, outlined below, we have the expertise to collaborate with you on intricate projects or challenges. We assist in developing testing matrices and decoding results to cater to your unique requirements.

Our true value to our clients is in the interpretation and analysis of results. Whether you seek analytical or chemical analysis, inspections, certification, forensic testing, verification, or training, our team of multi-disciplinary scientists possesses the knowledge to obtain profound insights.

Microanalysis Australia is able to provide a suite of analytical techniques that can provide valuable data from the initial exploration cores through to exporting your product.

From your first core sample our Petrographic and XRD Team can assist in providing detailed analysis to assist in making key decisions in further exploration.

But it doesn’t stop there, we are also able to provide continuous analytical support to assist you with process optimisation through to identifying potential hazardous materials through to shipping.

From core samples to RC chips petrographic examination is the only way to understand mineral genesis, textural relationships, and in situ exploration targeting vectors.

Stereoscopic and thin section petrographic investigations are available to understand your geology fully, including speciation of critical minerals, primary and secondary origins, and potential processing pitfalls.

Microanalysis Australia work closely with a range of ore types and with multidisciplinary approaches to maximise analytical outcomes for hard won samples.

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) is a technique for examining the crystalline components, or phases, in a bulk specimen. Specifically, our ultimate goal is quantitative phase analysis: the identification of phases present and the determination of their abundances. This is a comparative technique where the diffraction pattern obtained for a specimen is compared against a standards database. XRD analysis can be performed on any solid material be they single minerals and crystals, pre-pulped assay samples, whole rocks, or drill core. Elemental composition is not determined by XRD but can be inferred from the results.

Other information can also be gleaned from the analysis of an XRD pattern, including the degree of weathering or alteration, crystallite size and microstrain, unit cell parameters, elemental substitution, and the amorphous content.

In real-world samples, it is common to have over a dozen different phases at varying concentrations. The use of elemental assay, information of the sample’s history and location, and complimentary techniques, all assist analytical outputs by strengthening confidence in both phase identification and quantification.

Microanalysis Australia is a NATA accredited laboratory and has been offering Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) services to numerous industries, including exploration, mining, construction, and the research industry for over a decade.

Scanning Electron Microscopy uses a high energy beam of electrons that can be focused onto a spot approximately 1 nanometer in diameter, resulting in images with resolutions of better than 10 nm, wide depth of field and characteristic x-ray emission gives detail of the spatial and textural relationship of the elements.

Microanalysis Australia can provide a range of particle sizing analyses for all applications. From shipping classifications to process refinement, particle size is a critical parameter across many industries.

Our expert particle sizing team utilise NATA accredited sieving, laser diffraction, particle counting and automated feature analysis methods to deliver both precision and accuracy to your particle size analytical needs.

Microanalysis is one of Australia’s leading experts in determining Transportable Moisture Limits (TML) and a suite of tests that are essential in classifying and exporting bulk materials and dangerous goods. Microanalysis has worked closely with the mining industry to develop testing procedures that have been accredited through the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) to ensure compliance with various product standards and international shipping regulations. Microanalysis provides certified and reliable shipping declaration testing for the export of bulk ores.
